Thinking of Jamaica, easy to carry with clear blue waters and palm trees. This tropical oasis is known for the free and loving vibes that are felt throughout the island, welcomed and welcomed by all: tourists and its residents. “Dancehall means you can be free,” said a proud Shenseea, reflecting on the musical inspiration she drew from her cultural backgrounds. “Rude, but love. We are [dancehall artists] try to spread it all over the world. Everywhere we go, people enjoy it because of the energy. Jamaica is a very free place. ”

As a curious teenager, Shenseea, Chinsea -born Linda Lee, found expression through art, drawing, and painting anything that inspired her. If not lost in the world of imagination, he will spend afternoons by the river with friends, bird hunting, playing cricket or football, cycling, or reading (a hobby he still enjoys).

Constantly moving between family homes while her single mother worked overnight for several weeks at a time, Shenseea’s upbringing was far from consistent. She moved around between aunts and uncles and occasionally lived alone. However, music always plays in the halls of the homes in which he lives. “My aunt put music on me because as she grew up with her, in the earliest stages of my life, from four to thirteen, she often blasted her music. Almost every day at home as a child. Too much noise, I had no choice but to listen, ”she recalls, crediting her aunt for her introduction to melodies. From the very beginning, the ambitious young talent will discover his passion for art and nothing else but to become an artist.

Like many musicians before him, he had to face the obstacle of his family’s judgment. Being a dancehall sensation was not a dream shared by his family, which often pushed him towards other stable careers. “My mother wanted me to be a flight attendant, and my aunt wanted me to be a doctor. He started calling me Dr. Lee, “he said, laughing as he remembered.” But I wanted to be an international artist. I only wanted to do music, “he boasted excitedly,” and this is my dream, and that is why I am enthusiastic and determined. ”

However, it wasn’t just with the birth of her son Rajeiro, that Shenseea pushed the opinions of others and motivated herself to pursue being an actress. “My life changed after becoming a mother. I was agitated. I had, like, a thousand US dollars in my name along with a newborn baby, as a single mother, ”she recalls.“ I knew I had to change not only for myself now, but for my son, he’s all mine. “

So, many nights after putting her son to bed, Shenseea spends a lot of time writing in the hopes of creating meaningful verses. “I started writing ciphers. One line became two … ended up in a paragraph … became a whole song without a chorus … I was developing my writing skills, ”she recalls. And this training will be useful. After being encouraged by an industry colleague to pursue the dancehall because of her rattle and captivating voice, Shenseea took the opportunity to contribute to her vibrant culture, a sound she describes as “love, full of energy and good excitement. “

Shenseea spent her days working as a bottle and promo girl at island parties. Through a co -worker, he was introduced to Rudolph Brown (known as Romeich Major) of Romeich Entertainment, an emerging advocate for important events and stylist at some of Jamaica’s most promising acts. After the meeting, Shenseea recalled that they immediately clicked and then signed a management deal, joining her music roster as her first female artist. That night he gave her a beat to work on, and she stayed until 5 am writing a song. The fruits of that session became his first single under his new team titled, “Jiggle Jiggle,” which was released in the summer of 2016.

Soon, Shenseea was working as a promo girl at Dream Weekend when the event’s DJ lined up her song. Unbeknownst to the emerging artist was working among them, the raging majority of partygoers danced in anticipation as the DJ yelled at him. “No one knows who I am, what I look like. That’s where I served Tommy Lee [renowned Jamaican artist, Tommy Lee Sparta] and other artists, and MY music plays. ” At that moment, he realized his future was about to fly. This kind of night often happens, and after people get to know her while working, she quits her steady job as a promo girl for parties and takes on a new full-time gig: promoting Shenseea, the artist.

After a series of local hits, Shenseea collaborated with dancehall maven Vybez Kartel on “Loodi.” The cheeky anthem will arouse the interest of U.S. record label, Interscope Records, which will sign him under the imprint, “Rich Immigrant.” The deal made him the first Jamaican artist to sign with the 32-year-old label. It will also pave the way for his Stateside debut, with rapper Tyga in the 2019 summer smash, “Blessed.”

In the years following the signing, Shenseea would release over 30 songs in multiple genres. In addition, the singer has secured a large number of collaborations, including features that will give him recognition in 64ika Grammy Awards; a nomination for ‘album of the year,’ for his two features on Kanye West’s Dondaand fortunately, he was named a Grammy participant for his work on Masego’s EP, Studying abroadnominated for ‘progressive R&B album’ and Major Lazor’s Music is a Weapon (Reloaded) for ‘best dance/electronic album.’

Recalling the day she received the call about being a Grammy nominee, Shenseea explained that she was in the middle of recovery at home after being diagnosed with a hematoma. Her doctor instructed the busy actress to stay in bed rest for the next two weeks, leaving her feeling helpless and forced to stay. “I was thrilled when my co-manager Dizzy called me and told me I was nominated for a Grammy’s. I feel the news came at the right time. It gave me purpose again. It gave me motivation, ”she recalls. “And before I released MY album. I’ve been busy putting in the work and dedication to other people’s work as well, trying to get stuck in there before I even put my project in there… I feel like my whole story was just ordained. You know, that’s my destiny, ”she adds.

For the past two years, Shenseea has been writing and rewriting songs to add to her arsenal in preparation for her debut album.

“The original name I had for my first album was Eleanor because I based it on my mother. But then I noticed that every single time I’m about to talk about my album, there is a complete sadness coming over me because it’s my late mom, ”he explained. “So, I changed. I don’t want to remind myself of this tragedy that happened to me over and over again while this was my first album that I had to talk about for so long. ”

Representative of her strong, dominant, and fierce personality, the singer came up with a new title for her inaugural album: Alpha. Determined not to confine itself to a single genre, the project, released in March of 2022, is meant to be an introduction to multifaceted artists. The compilation showcases the versatility of Shenseea, exploring pop, dancehall, reggae, r & b and rap. Her voice effortlessly rides on enticing melodies, toggling between singing and rap, accompanied by features from industry hitmakers such as Meghan thee Stallion, Offset of the Migos, and 21 Savage. The network of co-signs does not lightly shine but as an indicator of the widespread popularity of his sound among a global audience and a crossover formula, which seems to be in good standing.

In the depths of his rising career, the most important thing in the actor’s life is his love for his son and God. Performing in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Billboard’s Music Con in Las Vegas, her son Rajeiro can be seen in the corner of the crowd, standing next to his aunt, admiring his mother’s talents. “Being a mother doesn’t influence how I make my music. As long as I’m not portraying myself in a way that makes her shy, then it’s okay, ”she says of her mature craft. “And if he tells me ‘Mom, I don’t like this,’ that’s fine. He supports me so much. ”

As for spirituality, “I feel that what is for you is always for you,” he said with conviction. “I remain humble after having so much success in my career because I am close to God.”

The journey for Shenseea is far from over as she is excited and proud of her light, taking gems from her process and making her obstacles triumphant. Her optimism can be seen in anyone who encounters her, and while the world is still recognizing the true love Shenseea, she maintains her humility, light-heartedness, and gratitude. “I’m just so obsessed with my career. I don’t seem to have time. If I’m not singing, I’m still doing something that helps me grow. And I love that. ”
